  353. In response to the query about EPROM programmers for the Atari ST, I know of
  354. one from Maplins Electronics in the UK. It works with any computer through
  355. the RS232 port and is quite slow (1200 baud) but is easy to use. Being UK
  356. it needs a 240v AC, 50Hz supply and I imagine that it would thus be difficult
  357. to use in the US. It can program most of the popular EPROMs and I have
  358. developed an Atari ST driver program for it if anyone is interested. The
  359. programmer costs about $180 in the UK. I can supply more information if anyone
  360. is interested.

  377. One thing that may cause your problem is that if GDOS runs and there's  no
  378. entry for the resolution it's running in in your assign.sys file, it bombs.
  379. There should be entries for devices 5-9 as well as 1-4.  You can copy the
  380. font and driver setup from your entry for device 4 to devices 5-9.

  412. I'd like to build a text-edit routine similar to the one in the Mac
  413. OS that is essentially stand-alone and ready to use in any
  414. application that I or anyone else, happens to be writing.
  415.  
  416. I guess this means that the editor should support selecting text with
  417. the mouse, standard cut/copy and paste functions and ideally, GDOS
  418. capability (so that VDI routines should be used)
  419.  
  420. Before I started to re-invent the wheel, I thought I should ask here
  421. in case people have got advice or pieces of code that might be
  422. useful.  (I plan to write this in Laser C)

  473. Hmm, I've tried BGIF but only in 16 Colours Mode, because my Machine has an
  474. 16Mhz Acceleration Board which won't work together with Spectre Pics. The
  475. results weren't too good, now I got VIEWGF12 from terminator and this one is
  476. quite good in 16 Colours Mode, so I presume the SPU Pics it converts to won't
  477. be to bad either. BTW: ViewGif supports quite a few Pic Formats including next
  478. to GIF and Degas also IFF and MacPaint and some more.

  672. Everything I know about computers, I have basically taught
  673. myself.  However, in High School, I was in a couple of
  674. computer classes, and in college I took a computer class.
  675. Although I have not been in working environments with
  676. computers, the information I have learned, I have learned
  677. on my spare time at home.  I know how to use just about
  678. any computer system out there, and just about ALL software
  679. If I don't know how to do something with the computer, I
  680. can easily learn it, and generally quite quickly.

  684. I have a slight vision problem.  I do not have that
  685. much problems with my vision, unless I am in a very
  686. dim lighted area, and occassionally some small
  687. print is hard for me to read.  Whatever I have
  688. been told to do, I WILL accomplish, although some
  689. things I might be slower at doing than others.  I
  690. have problems with my asthma, and need an inhaler
  691. or my breathing machine some.  Most of the time at
  692. home I use the breathing machine, but at work, I
  693. can bring an inhaler when I need it.  I also have
  694. problems with allergies.  Due to my allergies, my
  695. nose is stopped up 90% of the time, resulting in
  696. me breathing through my mouth most of the time.
  697. In return, it dries out my mouth and requires me
  698. to need something to drink more than normal.  I
  699. will make do though, on what my working
  700. environment consists of though.  The one thing I
  701. absolutely CANNOT have is anything with PEANUTS.
  702. PEANUTS or anything with PEANUTS make me severely
  703. sick.

  792. I have a buddy who just got a TT.  He wishes to connect his 80mb Supra to
  793. the machine (which already has a HD), thus having access to both drives.  He
  794. did this by plugging the Supra into the DMA socket on the back of the machine.
  795. The internal hard disk uses the Atari HD software, and is at SCSI 0 (thus is
  796. the boot drive).  His Supra is set at SCSI 1.
  797.  
  798. Problem:  The machine sees the Supra, it parks it when park.prg is run, and it
  799. can reformat it, but the desktop cannot see the partitions.  He tries to
  800. install icons for the partitions, and cannot do so.
  801.  
  802. Does anyone know of something obvious he could be doing wrong (dealing
  803. specifically with the TT and the Atari Software)?  I have never worked with
  804. the Atari HD software, are there any quirks he/I should know about?

  838.         If you don't want to use it don't. Some of us don't have both a color
  839. and a monochrome monitor, but have fun checking out neat little software
  840. packages that run on the other moni ( EMULA goes both ways ). Therefore, when
  841. I used EMULA and it actually worked with most applications ( other moni emus
  842. don't work with much ) I was quite impressed and though perhaps someone else
  843. might benefit from using it. In making the note about floppy disks I was only
  844. trying to save someone from what MIGHT happen, I never said for sure that it
  845. would. In fact if you use Superboot it would probably be just fine because
  846. you could shut it off on the next boot if it didn't work the first time.
